South east: Gaborone yacht club: The first work on the road to the island site

Happy days in 1979 in the Cottonfields at the finish of the desert race. Yes, that is an enthusiastic policeman.

Gaborone dam with Kgale on the right, from the old (mostly underwater) yacht club site

Delightful original University hostel, now wiped

The first continuous paving of the main Mall was for this royal visit

Sweet the cat (lived to 14) on the front doorstep

Nero, the skinny black boy who turned up hungry one day was of course allowed in: look at those eyes. Sadly he later as a young cat-about-town befriended cats across a busy road and burned up his nine lives

In 2017 Stripes, the cat who arrived in the backyard the previous November, discovered how to do Spidercat

Running freely up walls

At home

Gaborone dam

Our zenith was 67 entries for a regatta in the days of windsurfers

GYC rising. We found stones laid across the gaps between the rocks, probably when the hill was a lookout in the Boer war

Once there was an annual raft race

We chose a new yacht club site that would be adjacent water, whatever the level

At the club, looking east

Looking south. Botswana ends on the hilltops
