On my third visit to Zimbabwe, starting in October 1980, when I worked there for eight months, I met up with a University friend in Harare. He and his wife organised a trip to the eastern highlands for one long weekend, which turned out magic


The country falls sharply down to Mozambique


We climbed to the highest point in the country


And I took home $20 or so in big winnings from the Juliasdale casino

Several visits have been quick (but costly now) day trips from Kasane to see the Victoria Falls. This image is from my second visit to the Falls, with Richard and Karen, taking a tourist flight from the airport

Then on to Wankie national park where we stayed at a modest camp site. No lights, and an interesting hole in the fence made by a prey animal trying to get away from a hunter animal. There was also a tendency for hyenas to come and collect the dirty cutlery, but after cleaning it, they didn't bring it back. We did our own dishwashing
