Four of us bought a Fiat 500 Giardiniera estate approaching ten years old and rusting for our tour in 1971. The boot was in front, and there was a motor somewhere. The co-owners were Andre van Graan, John Haynes and Mrs Haynes, John's mother. Internet picture.

It was much less shiny and new, and the rust had developed well, but offered the delight of driving in a bathtub. It was LHD so worked well on the continent and was narrow enough for the driver to see around the car in front in the UK. Internet picture.

Ours was white with blackwall tyres, and blended well with all the other Fiats parked on the pavements in Rome. The front doors hinged at the back, which made sense. We could not always meet the minimum uphill speed in Switzerland. Internet picture.

Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Babies, after a fashion: In 1987, a visit to a car collection in southern England introduced me to the early triple headlight Tatra. I haven't found an illustration, but some roots are the Rumpler of 1921 (see them in Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis'), bilaterally streamlined. Internet picture.
