- The theatre was conceived for a specific type of performance known as “theatre a la italienne”: a shoe horse shaped floor plan with the audience at different floor levels but always maintaining a frontal relationship with the stage. As a matter of fact, the first performance was Giuseppe Verdi´s Il Trovattore interpreted by the Italian Opera Company
- From 1881 to 1983 when the Teresa Carreño compound opened its doors, the Teatro Municipal was the most important music hall for such performances as operas, zarzuelas – Spanish operetta- and symphonic music. Moreover in 1917 a performance by russian ballerina Ana Pavlova, began a long standing tradition of ballet performances at the Municipal which became the site of Ballet de Caracas Dance Company.
- Its stage has witnessed the long and rich story of scenic arts in Venezuela, and today it is being restored.
