- The building was conceived by Carlos Raúl Villanueva in the neoclassical style prevailing in the country´s public buildings by that time.
- The Museum was designed according to the classical aesthetic principles of symmetry, proportion and order. The floor plan arises from the use of square geometrical shapes, and from the concepts of “openness” and “closure”, it is also evident the architects search for space, functionality in the circulation areas and exposure to the light of the exhibition halls.
- The entrance is enhanced through Doric columns: from this point two lateral facades are laid out in a monumental columnata.
